Massive Changes are Coming to Education Because of the "Big, Beautiful Bill"

On July 4, President Donald Trump signed the “Big, Beautiful Bill” into law. As the unoriginal name suggests, this budget bill includes lots of sweeping changes to existing law in many areas. (To learn everything in it, you can read the whole thing online. Or you can find more general coverage to understand what it really means.) Regarding education, it implements new policies for colleges and especially student loans. The Inside Higher Ed recap of the major changes to Students Loans linked above is worth reading.

There’s a very important piece to much of the bill, and the student loan piece in particular. None of them are implemented immediately. Certain student loans will be capped, the Grad PLUS loans are being eliminated, and connects Federal Student Loan access to institution’s graduates’ earnings…
