The Trump Administration Suspends $584 Million in Grant Money to UCLA

The University of California, Los Angeles is the newest target for budget cuts from the current Presidential administration. This time, the government has “suspended” grant money towards the school based on the way it handled demonstrations last school year. This money is mostly grants for academic and scientific research, not student safety or campus policies.

The UCLA Administration has noted this will largely “kill” research. Also, though, as with other funding battles between the government and schools, this funding is not necessarily gone. So the government is basically using the funding as leverage. The research will not be killed, depending on whether or not the school acquiesces to governmental demands.
