Conservative Commentator Charlie Kirk Shot and Killed at Utah Valley University
It is unlikely anyone missed that arch-conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on Wednesday in Orem, Utah during an event hosted by his “Turning Point USA” organization. An as yet unidentified shooter hit Kirk from a rooftop a few hundred feet away with a single rifle shot. This is the kind of story that breaks through even in the highly fragmented media environment of 2025.
The killing of Charlie Kirk is primarily a media and politics story, but since he was shot on a University campus, it also touches on education. Specifically, Kirk and Turning Point USA had targeted campuses across America as places to lead events and combat what they perceived as problems on campus. Although nothing is known about the shooter, firing one shot at Kirk suggests he was indeed targeted.
